Death Cab for Cutie are an American indie pop rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. Death Cab for Cutie began as a solo project of Ben Gibbard, now the band's vocalist and guitarist. The band's first album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, was released as a demo, leading to a record deal with Barsuk Records. It was at this time that Gibbard decided to expand the project into a complete band, and recruited band members to join. The band has released eight albums to date, and has subsequently signed to Atlantic Records. With Plans being the most recent album to date (2005), fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Narrow Stairs - due for release on 12th May 2008... In addition to Death Cab for Cutie, Gibbard and guitarist Chris Walla are both involved in side projects. Gibbard provided vocals for The Postal Service, produced and mixed by Jimmy Tamborello, creating the album Give Up in 2003. They have also been working on a new album since then, which has yet to be released. Walla has released solo work under the name Martin Youth Auxiliary, and in January 2008, he released a solo album titled Field Manual. |
